Daily painting #157

Blue bowl with Plums
5 x 7 inch oil on canvas board
SOLD

Another new item to my daily paintings, I have been thinking about painting this bowl for a while, but I was always put off a bit by the size of it, since changing the composition, and painting larger items recently I am glad I finally got to use it. The bowl is glazed terracotta and the blue glaze is quite reflective, its quite a challenge to paint reflections on coloured items, but it was fun to paint.

Blush Pear

Blush Pear
15 x 15 cm Oil
SOLD

Here is my first painting done with my new W&N Artists oils. I am getting used to using them now, it was such a change at first, the colours are a lot more intense and the consistency is slightly different to the Griffin range, the biggest change for me was the drying time.

Daily painting #155

Pomegranate with Pewter
5 x 7 inch oil

This was yesterdays painting, due to problems with Auctiva, the ebay listing site I use, I could not list it last night.
I know I keep on mentioning new paintings with my new paints, but I will be listing the first one in the next few days,  I have been waiting to see how they looked when dry, I will be varnishing the first few tomorrow.

Daily painting #154

Red Delicious with Silver goblet
7 x 5 inch oil
SOLD

This is the second painting to feature this goblet that my uncle Roger made years ago. I only use french Ultramarine, burnt sienna and white to mix all the silvery grey, I find these colours great for mixing different tones of metal

Daily painting #153

Cherries with blue glass bottle
5 x 7 inch oil
SOLD

I've had a very frustrating couple of days! my Internet connection started playing up Sunday afternoon and by Sunday night it was off totally, it was back on this afternoon.
This painting was done yesterday, I am sort of getting used to painting larger items in small paintings.
I am still playing around with my new artist oils, I have decided to only post them on here and on eBay once they are dry and ready to be sold. there are some pics of my new paintings on my Facebook page.

Daily painting #152

Mandarin orange & blue bottle
5 x 7 inch oil
SOLD

This is my first daily painting to feature some glass in it, the blue is great with the orange. I am finding lots of new larger items to paint, it has been quite a change only painting parts of items alongside the fruit, but it gives me many more options than just sticking to items that fit in.
This is also the first mandarin, very like a clementine with the leaves, only a lot rounder and the leaves are quite small.

Daily painting #151

Comice pear with silver goblet
7 x 5 inch oil
SOLD

A bit of a change in composition again for me today, I decided to paint the pear quite large, I usually leave quite a space around the edges, but I think this works well also.
The Silver goblet was made by my uncle Roger.

Daily painting #150

Clementine with pewter
5 x 7 inch oil
SOLD

I used the pewter tankard again today, the composition of these last three paintings has been quite different for me, I usually have the whole of an object in the painting, I have been running out of smaller items so it will be good to paint more like this.

Daily painting #149

Pear with Pewter
5 x 7 inch oil
SOLD

I enjoyed painting the pewter tankard yesterday, so I used it again today. I switched around the lighting for this one so there was more of a reflection from the pear.

Daily painting #146

Two Blush Pears
5 x 7 inch oil
SOLD

These two blush pears were quite small, so they fitted nicely in todays painting.
I've had a busy few days painting with my new oils, all my daily paintings as well as todays, so far have been painted with Winsor & Newton Griffin Alkyd oils, I am now using W&N Artist oils. They are quite different to paint with, much creamier, I will post pics soon, I am now having to work out drying times.
