Daily painting #13

Lime in the spotlight
5 x7 oil on canvas board
SOLD
Here is just a simple Lime in the spotlight. The Lemon in the spotlight that I did last week got quite a lot of attention, so I thought this would go nicely after it. It may look simple, but it does take some time to get the colour blending right, from a very dark green to almost yellow at the top.

Daily painting #12

Kiwi Slice
5 x 7 oil on canvas board
SOLD
I find Kiwi fruit one of the most boring looking fruit to look at unless you cut it up.  I had 4 kiwi to play with, I did try arranging them to look good, but in the end they still looked just boring! I think they need to be with other fruits in a still life to look good, I will try again soon.
So after slicing one up and eating most of it I ended up with this slice on a red cloth. I am happy with how it turned out.

Daily painting #11

Lemon Wedges
5 x 7 oil on canvas board
SOLD
Blue and yellow always look good together, so I chopped one of my lemons into wedges for this one. I really need to get out bargain hunting for some more blue and white china pieces. I don't use that much yellow on its own in my paintings, and I must admit its not my favourite colour to paint with, I am hoping the more I paint I will grow to love it!

Daily painting #10

Pomegranate
7 x 5 inch oil on canvas board
SOLD

Just a simple Pomegranate for today. It is just sat on the edge of the chopping block, I liked the way the sunlight just bounced of the board and lit up a little patch behind it, and the rich pink colour is one you don't find in many other fruit.

Daily painting #9

Strawberries and Cream
15 x 15cm (6x6inch approx)
SOLD
I like painting Strawberries, and as they are just coming in the garden its a good time to paint them. This little jug has been in the house for years, my Mum was given it by a gypsy who called one day years ago.

Daily painting #8

Fruity Trio
5 x 7 inch oil on canvas board
SOLD
For today's painting I just had to put these three in a row, the fruit was fresh and ripe and the colours looked great together, so I just sat them on my makeshift shelf, but I did change the background from my more commonly used dark brown / black. I think the lighter colour makes for  a more cheerful painting.

SOLD
Just a simple one for today! I placed this Lemon quite high up on my still life stack of blocks and boxes and shone the spotlight from right over the top.

Daily painting #6

Pear on the Block
7 x 5 inch Oil on canvas board
SOLD
I think I should have called this one Pear on the mental block!, I had a busy morning sorting parcels to be sent out, and worrying if the courier I had booked online was going to come, the courier arrived and I sent off my painting for exhibition at the Patchings art centre, Nottingham. I will post details of the exhibition once I know my painting has arrived safely!.
After lunch it was painting time. I had some Apples, Pears, Strawberries and a Pineapple to choose from, but none of them really worked well together in a small painting, A lot of rearranging later I ended up with just a pear and this block of wood. It's funny how simple things work best in the end.

Daily painting #5

Cherries in Blue and White bowl.
5 x 7 inch Oil on canvas board
SOLD
This is the last cherry painting for now, I have eaten most of them!. I am painting these daily paintings from life, not from photo's, so what I paint depends a lot on which fruit or veg looks nice in the shops. I am hoping in a few weeks time the fruit growing in the garden will be ready to pick, my dad is growing strawberries this year, along with all the other fruit he grows I should be spoilt for choice.

I got this great little blue and white bowl in a car boot sale last weekend, and even better, I only paid 50p for it, I enjoyed painting the bowl, so I am sure it will crop up in a few more paintings.

Daily painting #4

Pear with Cherries
7 x 5 Oil on canvas board
SOLD

For today's painting I stuck with the cherries I bought the other day before they started to shrivel up. For this painting I used and old crate that I rescued from being taken to the the tip, its a bit battered and broken but I like it! and the Pear fitted in nicely in the corner.

Daily painting #3

Cherries with Cider bottle
5 x 7 inch Oil on canvas board
SOLD
I love painting Cherries! It took me a while today to decide what to put them with, but finally settled on this little Scrumpy Cider bottle, arranging them also took a while today, as my still life set up need a bit of rearranging to get them at the right height in front of me. My still life set up at the moment, consists of a cardboard box, a couple of blocks of wood, a few books, a plank of wood and a sheet of black card as the background.

Daily Painting #2

Pomegranate and Pear with Pewter
7x5inch
SOLD

I thought I would stick with pewter for my second daily painting, I like the way it reflects the colour and shape of the fruit, but its not a shiny as silver so it doesn't pick up the reflection of me looking at it!
This painting is now available on ebay for a starting bid of just 99p!

Daily painting challenge #1

Satsumas with Pewter
15 x 15cm
SOLD
This is officially my first daily painting!. Although I already paint every day, I wanted to start my own daily painting challenge. If all goes to plan, I hope to paint 365 or more paintings in 12 months. I am offering this daily painting for auction on ebay for the starting bid of just 99p! but I hope it will reach a much more reasonable price. This was painted from life,  the pewter tankard belonged to my grandfather, and the Satsumas were from Tesco!
I am not including dailypaintworks.com challenge paintings in my daily paintings count, these will be extras, along with other work.

Zippo

Zippo
10 x 10cm Oil on canvas board

This is another one of Dailypaintworks challenges, the challenge was to paint this Zippo lighter using only Burnt Sienna, Ultramarine blue and Titanium white. I have never used such a limited pallet before, but I found it to be a very good exercise.

New blog and new paintings

Tomato
10 x 10cm. Oil on canvas board

Welcome to my new blog! To start things off I have taken part in a  weekly challenge from dailypaintworks.com. This is the first challenge I have taken part in, The challenge was to paint a vegetable, so for my first go at it  I chose to paint a single tomato in the spotlight. I like to paint in small format and these great little 10cm square canvas boards are fun. For my second entry I chose chillies.

Chillies
5x7 inch. oil on canvas board
SOLD

I haven't painted many veg before, so these challenges were a welcome change from my usually fruity paintings. For my third and final veg entry for the week, I painted some asparagus, I found this one the most difficult to paint, and it took a bit longer than I had planned. This was my first ever attempt at painting asparagus.
